Thread lifting, sometimes known as a ‘non-surgical facelift,’ is popular with patients who have slightly sagging skin (for example, around the jowl area) and would like a more lifted appearance. It offers the benefits of a facelift without the risk of surgery.
The treatment uses resorbable surgical threads inserted just under the skin to lift the innermost layer of the skin and stimulate collagen production.
We use PDO (polydioxanone) threads here at The Repton Clinic. This absorbable material has been proven through use in surgery for 30 years. The threads are suture-like materials carefully placed into the skin to lift the face, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and tighten the skin.
The threads are inserted under the skin via ready-threaded needles that are no bigger than filler needles.
The threads will stay in the skin for up to 6 months, after which they will dissolve away. However, the threads’ lifting effect is longer-lasting, as they encourage the tissues in your face to produce new collagen, which can last for up to 2 years.
Arrive at the clinic on the day of the procedure with clean washed face and without make-up.
To reduce the risk of bruising it may be beneficial to stop the use of elective medicines such as aspirin, or anti-inflammatory medications (i.e., Ibuprofen, Naproxen) for a few days prior to treatment.
It’s recommended to avoid drinking alcohol for 24 hours before the procedure.
If you have a history of herpes infection your clinician will consider an anti-viral treatment such as Zoviraz one day prior to treatment and for 7 days post procedure.
Do not touch, rub (including when applying skincare products) or massage the site for 2 days following treatment. Gently pat skin dry with a soft towel after washing.
Do not have a facial treatment for two weeks after the procedure.
Do not exercise or partake in any strenuous activity for the next 24hrs.
Avoid the sauna of a steamy environment for two weeks after treatment.
It is advisable to avoid elective aspirin and alcohol for 12-48 hours after.
In rare cases, the skin can suffer pigmentary changes. Avoiding the sun for at least four weeks following the treatment is important.
