Patient Safety in Aesthetics: A Welcome Step Forward – But There’s More to Do

On 6 August 2025, the UK Government announced new legislation to regulate the aesthetic industry — a long-overdue step towards protecting the public from unsafe cosmetic procedures.

Under the proposed measures:

  • Only qualified healthcare professionals will be permitted to perform high-risk aesthetic treatments.
  • Even lower-risk procedures, such as Botox and fillers, will require a local authority licence, ensuring appropriate training, hygiene, insurance, and safeguarding are in place.

At The Repton Clinic, we welcome these developments. Patient safety and ethical standards have always been at the heart of our work.

We are:

  • A fully CQC-registered clinic, meeting the highest clinical and operational standards.
  • A medically led practice with a prescriber on site for every treatment, ensuring safe planning and monitoring.
  • Led by Dr Nisha, a dentist with over a decade of aesthetic experience and a Diploma in Dermatology from the Royal College of Physicians.

This advanced training means Dr Nisha delivers evidence-based treatments with both skill and safety — and can effectively manage any complications, should they occur.

Raising the Standard in Aesthetic Medicine

While these regulatory changes are a vital step forward, more can be done to protect patients. We believe the industry also needs:

  • Clearer national standards for training and complication management.
  • Public education on how to verify practitioner credentials.
  • Stronger enforcement to remove unsafe, unqualified providers.

Why This Matters

Choosing an aesthetics provider is not just a cosmetic decision — it’s a clinical one. Patients deserve practitioners who combine skill with robust safety measures, backed by the right qualifications, protocols, and care pathways.

Our commitment is simple: To deliver excellence, safely and responsibly.
